CTV and GTV’s idol drama – [Down With Love] has clinched the champion spot for cable television ratings, and this has let male and female leads – Jerry and Ella to be very happy. As Jerry is currently in Japan, he shared via his manager, “Thank you to everyone for their support.” On the other hand, when Ella, the female lead who was busy at work, learnt that the viewership ratings has exceeded NT$100,000, she expressed via her record company that she will pledge a donation of NT$100,000 to The Child Welfare League Foundation and she will also, “Donate another NT$100,000 if the average ratings exceed 5, and pledge another NT$100,000 if the average ratings exceed 7.”

Ella said, “My role in the serial is as a nanny and I feel that young children need a lot of care and concern to grow up happily. I hope that every adult can also give their love and patience so that these young children can grow up healthily.”

In the debut episode of [DWL] last week, the scene where Ella and her elder sister Xiao Xian knelt down yielded good results. The day before, when Ella accidentally broke Jerry’s favourite sculpture, David and he realized something was amiss despite her attempts to disguise it. She knelt for forgiveness before Jerry again and the viewership ratings soared to 6.13. Jerry’s acting performance in the serial has won praises from the audience. Not only have netizens offered praises for his improvement, in a recent poll in Yahoo! for “Who is your favourite idol with good acting”, Jerry beat Vanness to clinch the top spot with 53154 votes compared to 44544 votes, to become the idol with the best acting performances in the hearts of audiences. In response to this, Jerry who is in Japan now said, “Thank you to those who have voted for me. Let us strive on to improve together.”

Ella’s Kneeling Scene Receives High Viewership Ratings, Netizens Look Forward to Her “Laying Egg”

With Jerry Yan and Ella as the male cast of CTV and GTV’s [Down With Love], the average viewership rating of the serial’s 2nd episode soared to 3.37. Ella’s 2nd kneeling scene actually yielded a high viewership rating of 6.13. According to the statistics, this would mean almost a 1,400,000-sized audience! Ella’s successful “kneeling” and Jerry’s good performance in the serial, in the recent Yahoo! online poll – for “Who is your favourite idol with good acting”, Jerry won (53154 votes) over Vanness (44544 votes) to become the Number 1 idol with good acting performance. Meanwhile fellow member of F4, Vic Zhou, was at 3rd place.

Debuts on GTV, Champion on Cabled Television

[DWL] has received good results for its viewership ratings. During CTV’s telecast on 7 Feb 2010, the average ratings rose to 3.37. During the 1st episode, when Ella and her elder sister, Xiao Xian knelt down, the ratings rose; and yesterday, when Ella knelt before Jerry once again to seek forgiveness for breaking his favourite sculpture, David, the rating for that minute actually exceeded 6. Even when GTV showed the repeat telecast of [DWL]’s 1st episode the evening before, its viewership rating of 1.69 clinched the champion spot for [Cabled Television] then. Hearing the news, Jerry and Ella were very happy. Currently in Japan, Jerry shared via his manager, “Thank you to everyone for their support.”

Viewership Ratings Exceeded 3, Happily Pledges Donation of NT$100,000 to Charity

Ella was busy at work yesterday. When she learnt of the viewership ratings has exceeded 3, she shared suavely via her record company that she will pledge a donation of NT$100,000 to The Child Welfare League Foundation. She also added she will “donate another NT$100,000 if the average ratings exceed 5, and pledge another NT$100,000 if the average ratings exceed 7.” In [DWL], Ella’s role is a nanny. She felt that young children need a lot of care and concern to grow up happily. She hopes that every adult can give their love and patience to create an environment for young children to grow up healthily.

Addicted to PING-GUO, Wishes for Reunion on [Here Comes KangXi]

Most of all many netizens were jokingly looking forward to Ella’s “promise” last week, “If the average viewership ratings exceed 10, I can even lay an egg!” A lot of netizens claimed, “Everyone has turned into Snow White, to be totally addicted to PING-GUO (Xiang Yu PING and Yang GUO, Jerry and Ella’s character names), and waiting for Lawyer Xiang to awake us with a kiss.” There are also many others who wish for the “Ping-Guo couple” to quickly reunite and go onto [Here Comes KangXi] for filming.

Jay Chou's 'Pandamen' tanks in Taiwan

Posted By:  Ðeviou§ @ Today, 12:20 PM

TAIPEI: Singer Jay Chou's maiden attempt at directing a television drama suffered poor ratings after it debuted on Friday in Taiwan.

"Pandaman", which Chou had earlier described as "cool", is a science fiction action drama about two superheroes from differing backgrounds who share a fascination with pandas.

The 30-year-old singer-director even expressed that he was confident the 110 million Taiwan dollars (about S$5.5million) production would be a success. However, the show's poor ratings indicate his confidence may have been misplaced.

"Pandamen", which aired on CTS, one of the four major television stations in Taiwan, attracted the least number of viewers among television shows in the same 10 pm timeslot. Chou's "Pandamen" only managed to garner 0.77 in ratings, compared to shows like the talent contest "One Million Star" (2.18) and idol dramas "K.O. 3an Guo" (1.53) and "Lucky Days" (0.79).

Viewers complained that "Pandamen" had a childish, convoluted plot that was hard to follow and pointed out that the show seemed to cater specifically for Mainland audiences as the cast often delivered their lines in Mainland-accented Mandarin.

Chou, who recently appeared in the film "The Treasure Hunter", brushed off these complaints and wrote on his official website that he "did not need high ratings". He insisted that the show was a success as "it represents a new generation of heroes" and "was a historic moment".

CTS officials also backed him and pointed out that "Pandamen" was the highest-rated show on its 10 pm slot in nearly a year.

The drama's poor showing in Taiwan was preceded by its dismal results when it first aired in Guangzhou, China. "Pandamen" was shown for three days on Guangzhou Television in late January.

Guangzhou Television reportedly paid an astronomical sum for the broadcast rights to the show, but "Pandamen" only managed to attract about 5,000 viewers on its third day, making it the lowest-rated show in the station's history.

At that time, many believed that complaints of a messy plot were due to heavy-handed Chinese censors cutting out crucial scenes for depicting gunplay.

However, "Pandamen" aired completely uncut in Taiwan.

Chou, who plays a police commissioner and appears for just two and a half minutes on the show, will reportedly attend a meet-the-fans session at Huashan Cultural Park on February 27, in an attempt to resuscitate the flat-lining show.

Tavia Yeung would go crazy eating and shopping to reduce stress

Posted By:  Ðeviou§ @ Today, 12:18 PM

Shirley Yeung and Tavia Yeung attended a charity auction yesterday. Reporter asked Shirley whether she would announce in public when she gets married? She smiled and said she would tell everyone. Therefore people don't have to waste their time to find out. She said married women usually have happiness written all over their faces, just like Kelly Chan and Miriam Yeung.

Talking about reducing stress, Tavia told reporter that people should look after their health and cherish their life. She finds it very stressful sometimes when she is working on TV series. She works day and night and doesn't have her own life. The reporter asked her how she copes with such a stressful life? She replied, "I would mop the floor at home. I work out that way till I am really sweating. Sometimes, I eat a lot and go shopping. In particular, when I am on holiday, I go crazy with shopping. Although I am happy that I buy a lot of clothes, I do have my budget. I would only spend a five figure sum at the most."

Ella & Jerry Yan’s Bed Scene – Perspiration-filled Chat

Posted By:  Ðeviou§ @ Today, 12:16 PM

Ella and Jerry will be having a “bed scene” in CTV and GTV’s [Down With Love]. However both artistes were fully clothed throughout, as their bed scene is a very safe and wholesome one. Both of them are just lying on bed, under the blanket to chat. Although the scene seemed relaxing, to be able to film while lying down; it was not all a breeze as it was filmed during the hot summer and the room was packed with crew members. As the air-conditioner could not be turned on during filming, everyone was perspiring badly. Ella shared that Xiao Xiao Bin and Ji Xin Ling also popped in to play, hence, it was really messy and stuffy on the set, making the bed scene very stuffy.

In [DWL]’s debut episode last week, the scene whereby Ella and Xiao Xian knelt down before Jerry soared to its highest viewership rating. Tonight will be the telecast of [DWL]’s 2nd episode. In tonight’s story, Ella will once again have to kneel before Jerry as she broke his favourite sculpture – David! On the other hand, the earlier posters whereby the casts signed on the [DWL] posters for charity auction, the one whereby Ella drew a fringe for Jerry appeared to the fans’ hot favourite and was sold at the highest bid of $9300. Meanwhile the 2nd series of the online charity auction has started on 3 Feb. Two of Jerry’s costumes’ bids have risen to over $30,000 within an evening. The costumes of the artistes are currently available via the online auction. All proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross.

Moses Chan and Raymond Lam top netizens’ poll of ideal lovers

Posted By:  Ðeviou§ @ Today, 12:13 PM

They may be embroiled in rumours surrouding romancing their female co-stars, but Hong Kong TVB actors Moses Chan and Raymond Lam have come out tops in an online poll where netizens voted for their ideal lover. The two actors were joined by fellow Hong Kong celeb, Heavenly King Andy Lau as the ideal male lover.

Charlene Choi (also know as Ah Sa), one-half of Cantopop girl group Twins was the overall winner of the poll which was conducted in-lieu with Valentine’s Day. Male netizens were said to prefer 28-year-old’s jovial personality and effervescent smile while female netizens loved her sweet and goody-two-shoes image. Model-actress Angelababy, Taiwanese actress Ariel Lin, and newbie singer Gloria Tang (also known as G.E.M.) followed close behind.

Delighted at his results, 31-year-old Raymond professed that he would like to spend “a very romantic valentine’s day” with his lover.

When he was asked to pick between the female celebs polled to choose his ideal lover, he said, “It is a really tough choice. If I really had to choose, I would choose the younger G.E.M. However I would be filming a movie together with Charlene, I can’t neglect her.”

Moses said he was “really very happy” with the results and thanked ”all the ladies for their support.” The 39-year-old feels that his “smile” and “amicability” won him the affections of his voters. Similar to Raymond, Moses praised Charlene for being “very sweet and very cute.”
